Nice housing in Japan, how?

For those who’ve spent longer periods living in Japan while being on tourist or digital nomad visa (which is 6months only) how do you go about finding a decent apartment? We truly love Fukuoka the most and have traveled quite a bit around Japan, but honestly, the combination of limited Airbnb options and apartments that often feel closed to foreigners is proving challenging. We keep ending up in places around 35 sq m for about $1,500/month—not ideal, but it shows how much we really do love being here. We’re willing to pay a fair amount for a comfortable place, yet either can’t find anything that fits or end up getting rejected.
