Do you ever allow pets?

We are newer hosts and have a weeklong booking coming up in a few days. The guest just messaged us saying their pet sitter cancelled and figured she would ask if they could bring the dog. Itโ€™s a three year old shitzu. Would you absolutely say no or do you ever make exceptions? We are thinking about saying yes with a pet deposit. If we are crazy, tell us! Any experience welcome. Also, our home is nice but not fancy. Itโ€™s a family friendly place but does have brand new furniture and carpeting. Update: thank you to everyone who responded. It has helped. We donโ€™t feel like we are ready to take the risk right now but would open to it in the future. We have a guest checking in the same day they check out.
