Feeling trapped in first group trip - leave and go solo?
Currently on a month-long trip in Europe with a group of four. I’ve always travelled solo, done Contikis, stayed in hostels, and I really value my freedom and independence when I travel. I decided to try a group trip this time, but I’ve quickly realised it was a mistake. The group’s pace is too slow for me, and I’m wishing I had just gone solo as usual. I probably should have been more assertive with the itinerary, but I’ve found myself doing things I’m not interested in just to keep the peace. For example, we have a wine tour tomorrow that I don’t want to do, but I’m worried about saying I want to skip it in case it makes people mad or ruins the vibe. We’re together every day, and it’s slowly driving me insane. I’ve tried to do my own things each day, but it still feels forced and awkward because I’m mentally checked out of the group dynamic. Honestly, I’d much rather completely peel off, travel solo, and stay in hostels like I usually do. But I know that might jeopardise the friendship (if it hasn’t already) and I’d still be on the same flights as them, which would be awkward if I go fully solo from here. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this – or has any advice or thoughts. Feeling pretty trapped at the moment.
