Inspected after customs two times in a row in New York

Hey, Sometimes I travel to New York for work, so I travel solo and usually only carry a backpack with all my stuff needed to stay 3 or 4 days. The last two times I went there, in two different airports, I was selected for a further inspection after leaving the place for claiming checked luggage (which I don’t have any). When I approached the exit door, an officer asked my passport and pulled me aside for a luggage inspection, when they basically opened my luggage and take all items of it. The last time he also noted down my passport number in a piece of paper. I’m starting to feel bad about it… does it make sense to feel that way? I’m also wondering why they wrote my passport number in a piece of paper? Is it probable that I’ll always be inspected in the future? I’m a white Brazilian in late 20s, I traveled to several other countries and other couple US states, but this only happened in NY. --- **Post Details:** - **Subreddit:** r/solotravel - **Author:** u/gusgopher - **Score:** 41 upvotes - **Upvote Ratio:** 82.0% - **Comments:** 38 - **Posted:** 7/7/2025 - **URL:** https://reddit.com/r/solotravel/comments/1lu21ht/inspected_after_customs_two_times_in_a_row_in_new/
