Is it reasonable to ban certain dog breeds in my Airbnb after a scary incident with a pitbull?
I rent out an apartment with a small garden. I live in the same house, and my garden is separated by a low fence. To reach both apartments, guests walk past the Airbnb garden, and we share the entrance hallway. Pets are allowed, and I usually have no problems with dogs. My small dachshund barks when he sees other dogs, but he is friendly. In my listing, I ask guests to keep their dogs on a leash in the hallway and garden. I’m new to Airbnb and didn’t have extra rules about dog breeds, but a recent experience changed that. Our last guests brought two pitbulls. At first, they seemed calm and the owners responsible. A few days later, I came home while the guests were in the garden with the dogs on a leash. My dog barked, and one pitbull broke free and charged at us. I picked up my 3kg dachshund, but the pitbull jumped at me trying to get to him and scratched me badly. The second dog was also barking wildly. The guest got control over him again but I was very scared. Their whole stay I tried to always make sure that no one was in the garden so my dog could get outside. The fence is high enough for my dachshund not to jump over but a pitbull could jump over it easily. I don’t want to blame a whole breed, but I am scared for my dog and for my niece who visits sometimes. Would it be reasonable to ban certain breeds in my Airbnb? In Germany, where the apartment is located, pitbulls, American Staffordshire Terriers, Staffordshire Bullterriers, Bullterriers and their crossbreeds are considered dangerous and are strictly regulated.
