Is this a scam?

I received a message from a potential guest saying he and his daughter are very interested in the unit, for a move in date of about 5 months out. He asked if his daughter can view the unit before making the reservation as she lives very close. I told him the unit is currently occupied and that wouldn't be possible but I would be happy to answer any questions. He said he was interested and asked if the rate was negotiable as they are staying 35 days, to which I happily agreed to. Then he says he's never used Airbnb and asked me how much the deposit is and how he should send it. He asked how much is the discount and what is the total amount he owes for the unit. I told him I would send him the discount offer and he proceeded to accept it right away with no other questions asked (I have a strict cancellation policy). Is this a scam of some kind? The fact that he asked to see the unit and asked for a discount is a green flag, however him saying he's never used Airbnb, asked how to book and booked 5 months out with no other questions asked raises red flags in my mind. Also, he and his daughter's profiles are relatively new, set up as of April 2025 (when he made reservation) and has no other reviews, but is verified. I would understand if he hasn't used Airbnb but his daughter seems relatively young (20s/30s) and should have some kind of booking history. I would welcome any thoughts. Thanks in advance! Edit: This is in CA and a mid-term rental (min 30 days) due to local regulations. --- **Post Details:** - **Subreddit:** r/airbnb_hosts - **Author:** u/wannaberetiree2024 - **Score:** 11 upvotes - **Upvote Ratio:** 76.0% - **Comments:** 39 - **Posted:** 7/14/2025 - **URL:** https://reddit.com/r/airbnb_hosts/comments/1lzvkj1/is_this_a_scam/
