Qantas Extremely High Taxes
I recently transferred points (>400,000) to Qantas after eyeing flights for my family of 6 for a summer trip to Paris from the US. When I finally went to book my tickets the taxes came out to be a staggering $4,182. I’m trying to figure out how to use points to pay for some of the taxes but so far I don’t have a clear idea on how many additional points that would be needed to transfer. In the meantime my husband looked up prices on Expedia and found literally THE SAME FLIGHTS as the ones on Expedia. The total including taxes? $4400. So the 400,000 points is worth a few hundred bucks???? Have I been scammed? I’m so disappointed in myself. I did a lot of research into this before transferring the points. This is all very depressing. I’m new to using points for travel. It seems I have a lot to learn. I’ve been on the phone on hold with Qantas for 20 min so far. When we realized how many points we racked up over the years with our cc we started dreaming of where we would like to take the kids to see the world. When we finally decided I was so excited and now I feel like an idiot.
