Sneaky Underhanded Change Reservation Requests
I wrote before about this trick used by some guests to circumvent cancellation policies - mainly using the change reservation request to place a reservation outside the cancellation window for a refund then cancelling as soon as the request was approved. We've now seen an even sneakier version of this, mainly that a guest with a multi-day stay will send a change reservation request along with a message that their "flight is delayed" or something similar and ask to change (for instance) a six-day reservation to a three-day reservation because they will be "getting there a few days late". Keep in mind, this is sent within the no refund window, but seems reasonable right? Nope. The minute the host approves the change reservation the guest cancels. Now however they get a 50% refund instead of no refund. We almost fell for this with a recent guest, and we know several other hosts who got tricked in this way. I would say I am surprised at the underhanded nature of some guests, but really I'm not.
