Working in EU, clients in US. Payment method that's transparent and has the lowest fees?
I work as freelancer based in Denmark/EU, I have a bank account here, with the IBAN/BIC codes, as well as a Paypal account. EU-EU transferences are easy because they are within the SEPA system. When I get the money in my bank, it says the client used shared cost (SHA), and I get around 7 euros of a fee, which I find acceptable. But when clients are from outside EU (most often the US) things get complicated and obscure. It seems like US banks operate within a system called ACH, which is incompatible with SEPA. I'm not sure if it's possible to "convert", but I think I heard it's very expensive. That's probably why my clients have been using different intermediary companies such as Wise, Paypal, etc, but the process is quite obscure: I always end up getting significantly less Danish Kroner in my account than what stood in the invoice, and I rarely get any breakdown about where the difference is going and how much we are each paying: Is it all lost in fees? Did the client pay 50% of them, or what percentage? I get an mail from Wise or Paypal, but there's no breakdown of these questions in it. Can anyone recommend an intermediary that I can recommend to my clients, that takes as little in fees as possible, and where the fees are transparent and I as a receiver get some kind of proper breakdown of what's going on? Ideally offering clear options for 50/50 sharing of fees, and possibly only sender/receiver too.
